This Summers Hot Lipstick!

Published February 21, 2014 by beautifulpeoplemakeup

So for winter I love the dark berry, wine toned lipsticks and have spent all winter trying to find the perfect deep purple lipstick. And now I am going to start my search early as this summer seasons hot lipstick trend looks to be ORANGE!

I am ashamed to admit that I have never owned or worn an orange lipstick, probably the closest thing to it in my collection is a warm orangey-red. However I am this year going to invest in a few orange lipsticks and test them out for you all. Any suggestions for you favourite summer lipsticks (orange or not) would be greatly appreciated! And any advice from you all on the colour I should go for, do I choose a deep orange borderline red or do a choose a fresh satsuma shade!

If you need me I shall be drowning in orange lipstick research…. Summer is only 4 months away!!!

The Lip Pencil Stick Review!

Published February 20, 2014 by beautifulpeoplemakeup

I was rummaging through my collection for inspiration and ideas and came across some Lip Pencil Sticks. I am unsure what to call these as they come under lots of different names but they are like chubby lip pencils that you apply all over the lip like a lipstick. I do not use these in my kit as they cannot be sanitized but they are good and easy to use at home.  I am going to try out 3 different brands today and compare them all for you. First up is the Jelly Pong Pong Lip Blush (I am unsure on the shade number or title but its a red colour) I don’t use or own a huge amount by Jelly Pong Pong and I think this came in a Glossybox but the description is a moisturizing lip stain made with beeswax. I like the idea that this is quite lightweight and moisturizing as I have very dry lips sometimes. This retails at £12

Next up is the ELF Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick in Movie Star which retails at £2.95. I think the key here is  that it is just a tint rather than an intense lip colour despite the colour that it looks in the packaging.

Next up is the Clinique Chubby Stick. I am testing two of these one is the normal version in shade 04 mega melon and one is the intense version in shade 05 plushest punch. Both came in a Clinique Bonus Time promotion and normal version I used to use quite a lot before I ventured into more bold lip colours. They both retail for £17

Swatches R-L: Clinique Chubby Stick in Mega Melon, Clinique Intense Chubby Stick in plushest punch, Elf Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick in Movie Star and Jelly Pong Pong Lip Blush

I am going to make things simple and do a mark out of ten in a few categories and then an overall score for the product with a few comments. I am going to mark them on: the packaging/look, although most of them look very similar I will let you know if one stands out or doesnt stand out for me; whether the product is true to colour or not, although this is sometimes difficult as these are more designed as lip stains or glosses rather than to be intensely colourful

So to the reviews. First I tried the Jelly Pong Pong Lip Blush

Packaging/Look: I like the cute writing on the side but I found that the wind up mechanism inside was a bit dodgy in mine so I give it 6/10

True to colour: I wasn’t sure if it was going to be too vibrant for day wear however it came out a beautiful soft red with a coral undertone and would be a perfect summer red for days when less makeup is needed! 9/10

Ease of use: I found it glided on perfectly and was very easy to use! 10/10

Overall I am going to give the Jelly Pong Pong  Lip Blush 8/10. I was really pleasantly surprised!

Next up the ELF Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick

Packaging/Look: For £2.95 I probably shouldn’t moan that the packaging looks a little cheap and plain but it does. 4/10

True to colour?: I found that this product was a total let down on colour. I know its supposed to be a sheer colour but I found they only way to get the colour density that I wanted was to literally shave a bit off the product and cake it onto my lips. The result in the photograph is 3 coats and it still looks nude. 2/10

Ease of Use: It did feel moisturizing however it was also the most sticky out of all the products and dragged a little. 5/10

Overall I would not buy this product again. ELF does produce some good low cost products however I think this is one I will steer clear of. 4/10

Next for the Clinique Chubby Stick (Normal)

Look/Packaging: Like the Jelly Pong Pong product they looked quite sleek and they are very purse friendly! 8/10

True to Colour: This particular shade is quite a natural soft pink anyway and is very similar to my original lip colour but it would have been nice to see a little bit more intensity however it is a good everyday wear shade. 7/10

Ease of Use: When I first used it I found that it dragged quite a bit and i had to wear it down and soften it before using it however I do find that everytime i use it again I have to soften it again before it glides over my lips. 6/10

Overall I did like this product and I would try it in a different shade. My lips felt particularly moisturized after using this product.  7/10

Now for the Clinque Chubby Stick Intense

Look/Packaging: They look the same as the normal chubby sticks apart from they say intense on the side. This could be a little confusing if you were looking for a certain shade in a store or in your makeup bag but I still like that they are sleek. 8/10

True to Colour?: This came out a beautiful intense pink almost like a sheer bubblegum pink which I really liked. I was very happy how the colour came out and this would be a really fun shade for summer. 9/10

Ease of Use: I found this product didn’t drag as much as the other Clinique Chubby Stick and was just as moisturizing which made it a winner for me!

Overall I would rate the Intense Chubby Stick 9/10. I will definitely purchase more of these for summer as they feel soft and light on the lips and are so easy to apply and they have really good staying power.

Christmas presents/Sale Haul!

Published December 30, 2013 by beautifulpeoplemakeup

So this Christmas I went all out in the sales. I also have a couple of things to show from christmas presents as well.

My Haul!

My Haul!

Here is a list of everything that I got (I will be reviewing all these eventually please ask if you would like to know more!):

  • Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation and Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation in shade 201 Classic Beige. I was looking for some drug store type foundations that I could use as I seem to go through foundation like no tomorrow. I usually use Clinique Continuous Coverage as I used to like thick foundation however now I find myself thinning it out a lot for a more natural look so I wanted to try something different. I’ve heard good things about the Wake me up foundation and the Stay matte was quite cheap and I know a few people who wear it that look good so I thought I would give it a go! I also purchased a Dream Matte Mousse and a Maxfactor Lasting Performance Foundation during my shopping. I have used the lasting performance and the dream matte mousse before and found them to be Ok however I was always touching up my dream matte mousse!
  • MUA Luxe Collection Matte Velvet Lip Lacquer in Criminal and Kooky (I got a red shade as well but don’t have it with me to name or show). I actually bought these before Christmas but I had to include them as I am so amazed by this product. These are £3… YES that was £3. You can buy them online and I think they may sell them in Superdrug as well. These are similar to anyone who knows Lime Crimes Velvetines. But in my opinion for the price they are so much more worth the money. Velvetines are around £13.50 depending where you shop and are lovely but the MUA version are so good for the price. I would urge you to try one even if you just wear it on special occasions! They come in five different colours, a purple, two pinks and two reds. They are all very standout colours. Perfect for statement lips! The thing that sold me on these lip laquers was the excellent pigmentation and the fact that they DO NOT budge. This can be a bad thing as they can stain a little but I had to do some vigorous scrubbing with makeup remover to get these swatches off my hand!

  • Karl for Shu prestigous bordeaux palette (bottom left of picture). This cute japanese style palette by Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura is gorgeous. I actually got this as a secret santa present. The theme was unwanted gifts and I cannot belive someone wouldn’t want this! You get 4 shimmery eyeshadows and 2 matte colours (One is supposed to be a blusher however its the same size as the eyeshadow and could be a little difficult to use as a blush which is disappointing as it is a beautiful burnt red.) Eyeshadows include a purple with silver sparkle, a golden bronze with gold sparkle and light lilac with silver sparkle, a matte taupe brown, a beautiful golden orange and the burnt red. This was by far the best secret santa I have ever received! I will review this whole palette in detail with more pictures soon!
  • One of my sale bargains: The YSL Pure Chromatics eyeshadow palette. This was on sale in House of Fraser for £19.50 and has 4 beautiful eyeshadows in brown and blue colours. It reminds me of the Navy and Nude palette from Bobbi Brown in a smaller form! First impressions are though that I’m not overly impressed with the pigmentation. It feels a little dull and sheer and I feel a little bit let down by YSL this time.
  • MAC Pro Lip Palette in Perfect Plums. This was a present from my partner. I think this is going to go in my kit so I haven’t swatched it but  it is 6 shades of plum, pink and purple from light to dark. It comes with a clear lid so is perfect to just grab when I need it and the shades are perfect for winter. I think I will definitely purchase more of these in the other shades to go in my kit.

  • Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette: After searching high and low for the original naked palette my partner gave in and got me the new one which has a lot more pinky tones in and came with samples of all the primer potions from urban decay. I would just like to make a small note on the packaging here. It feels cheaper and more flimsy than other Urban Decay Palettes which although doesn’t affect the product itself but I do worry when its in my bag! This might be a stay at home palette… Full Review to come!
  • Next Up: Lancome Time to Dramat’Eyes Makeup Clutch. This beautiful gift set was £23 in the sale however I think it is now sold out. I can understand why at that price! It comes in a beautiful glittery black box clutch and inside is a mini Hypnose doll eyes mascara (2ml), i’ve heard a lot about these so I am excited to try this! A mini lipstick in shade 132 which is a classic red. ( I love mini lipsticks. My DuWop Private collection come everywhere with me and take up nearly no space). Le Crayon Khol in Black mini and a beautiful Smokey eye palette with 5 shades of smokey including a large pink highlighter and a metallic grey and 3 smaller shades in silver, dark grey and black. This is so handy for nights out as it is small and lightweight! I used to carry my too faced smokey eye palette with me but this will definitely replace it!

I also purchased in the sale Crazy Sexy Kohl by Soap and Glory. I have only ever tried their concealer before which I found was a good product and this set was half price so I thought I would give it a go. It came with 3 eyeshadows which I think I will probably end up putting into an empty palette of some sort. They seemed a little powdery when I swatched them. The pencils themselves were really nice colours a black, brown, green, blue and plum. I found that the blue and the plum were actually quite similar on the skin which was disappointing but the blue is a lovely deep blue which is a perfect alternative to black. The plum colour actually broke while I was swatching it which was upsetting to say the least! I doubt I will use this one very much. I was impressed with the black though. It was soft and smudgy like a Kohl should be and wore very well without smearing all over my face. I have also ordered the Urban Decay 24/7 Gift set which has similar colours so I will do a comparison when they arrive.

Let me know if you want to know anything more about any of this products and part 2 will follow when the rest of my sale bargains arrive!

That tingling feeling…

Published December 29, 2013 by beautifulpeoplemakeup

We all get it occasionally. Fingers tapping on the keyboard, eyes wide with lust, a little voice in our head telling us we have to have it and its a brillllliiiant bargain.

I am the worst sale shopper ever. Coming boxing day I was battling through the slow dodgy internet connection at my parents house and purchasing all those have to have beauty products! And then I fearfully log into my internet banking and realise the metaphorical change in my back pocket is a lot lighter.

I just keep telling myself it’s an investment in my future as a makeup artist… (who am I kidding, im secretly a serial makeup hoarder).

Did you pick up anything in the sales? Let me know about all the bargains!

Firstly I hope everyone had an amazing christmas and got everything they wished for!

I was very lucky to get some wonderful new makeup products including lots of different dark winter lipsticks. I am preparing to do my perfect winter lipstick blog! I also got new perfume including the Rhianna Nude and CKIN2U (perfect for summer!). I also sent my partner on a mission to find the original naked palette as its my favourite and I needed a new one but it was out of stock everywhere so he got me the new Naked 3 which has a lot more pink tones in. I haven’t used it enough yet to review it but I will do!

Not beauty related but santa also brought me a new car!

What did you get for christmas!?

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Perfectly Poised

Published December 11, 2013 by beautifulpeoplemakeup

I picked up this gorgeous bronzer from a MAC store about a week ago. It is part of their limited edition Divine Nights collection for Winter/Christmas 2013. It is a beautiful soft powder that feels really velvety when applied. I love the rich bronze colour and the paler colour is pretty with a slight pink shimmer. It costs £24 and can be bought instore or online subject to availability.

I really really love the colour of this bronzer and I do sometimes struggle to find a bronzer that is the perfect shade for my beige skin tone. I don’t normally wear shimmery bronzers especially not in winter however once applied the shimmer doesn’t look over the top or stand out massively it just catches the light at the right moment and can make the face look more contoured if applied correctly.

Here are my swatches, the lighting isnt great and defintely makes the bronze colour look a lot more gold than it actually is but as you can see both colours are really pigmented.

Cutie Klaws

Published December 11, 2013 by beautifulpeoplemakeup

So about a month ago I decided to set up a little business venture. I love wearing acrylic nails especially ones with bows, rhinestones and 3D decoration however I find that when I am at work I need to take them off so wearing acrylics from a salon isn’t an option. Spending £40 to wear nails for a few days was definitely not financially viable!

So I created Cutie Klaws. I make handmade hand decorated nails that can be stuck on and removed whenever you which just like the stick on fake nails you can buy in Boots or Superdrug but slightly more “bling”.

I make them in different colours, styles and lengths and any set can be customised to your specification.

You can purchase all the nails I sell on Etsy. Here is a link to the set in the photo :

Hope you like them! Any feedback would be grately recieved!
